We service only the mini-splits we installed.
Mini-split systems are different from central HVAC. The inverter boards, communication protocols, refrigerant flares, and proprietary diagnostics vary widely brand to brand. To service them well, we limit repair work to systems we installed ourselves, where we know the equipment, the line set, and the load math behind the original sizing.
Coverage follows the equipment, not the homeowner. If you bought a home with a T.Byrd’s-installed mini split, you’re covered, just bring the install record or our prior invoice.
If your mini-split was installed by another company, we’ll politely decline the repair. We can absolutely quote a replacement install in Daikin, Goodman, or Amana so the system going forward is one we can stand behind.

Three rooms, three temperatures, one system.
A homeowner in Huntersville called us about three rooms the central system never quite handled, an upstairs bonus room that ran 8 degrees warmer than the rest of the house in July, a sunroom off the kitchen that was unusable in either July or January, and a finished space above the garage that the previous owner had given up on heating altogether.
Running new ducts wasn’t practical, the framing path didn’t exist, and a single new central system zone wouldn’t have helped the sunroom anyway because of the glass load.
We measured each space, ran a Manual J load calc on each room individually, and quoted a three-head multi-zone Daikin mini split sized to the actual loads, not three identical heads that would have overshot some rooms and undershot others.
The install went in over two days. Each room now sits at its own setpoint. The sunroom is finally usable year-round, the bonus room actually matches the rest of the house in July, and the space above the garage is a working office now instead of storage.

Mini-split systems are sensitive to brand-specific diagnostics, the inverter boards, communication protocols, and refrigerant flare techniques vary widely, and the only way we can stand behind the repair is if we know the install. We’re happy to quote a replacement in Daikin, Goodman, or Amana so the system going forward is one we can support.
Daikin, Goodman, and Amana, exclusively. We pick from those three because we’ve stocked the parts, trained the technicians, and seen enough of them in Carolina homes to know how they age. Other brands look fine on a spec sheet but we don’t have the diagnostic relationship to service them well over a decade-plus lifespan.
A few common cases. Additions or finished spaces where extending the existing ducts isn’t practical. Bonus rooms above the garage or kitchen that the central system can’t quite reach because of duct length and static pressure. Sunrooms with high glass load. Whole-home ductless retrofits in older houses where the ductwork is too compromised to keep using. If your existing ductwork is in good shape, a central system is usually the better whole-home answer.
Single-zone is one outdoor condenser paired with one indoor head, simplest, most reliable, best efficiency. Multi-zone is one outdoor condenser paired with two-to-five indoor heads, more flexibility for whole-home coverage, but each indoor head needs to be sized to its room load (not just the total square footage). We run a per-room Manual J before quoting any multi-zone system.
